Due to potentially damaging weather this afternoon and evening, the children’s musical and pre-show events in the Leawood Sanctuary have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Hi everyone!
What an incredible first day of work it has been! We had the opportunity to serve in so many different ways that, by the end of the day, it felt as though we had all become experts in a variety of brand-new skills.
Our morning was spent at Juan Wesley School, where we worked with the students through four different activity groups. One group led an art class, where the children created colorful crayon drawings before bringing them to life with watercolor paints. Another group shared the joy of music by helping the students make handmade maracas to accompany their singing. The gymnastics group encouraged teamwork and laughter through games like the Human Knot, while the Zumba group received a gentle reminder that convincing teenagers to dance in front of their peers is no easy task! :-)
The afternoon brought three more opportunities to serve. Our Vacation Bible Club team presented the story of Daniel in the Lions’ Denthrough a skit, followed by engaging games and activities for the children. Another group headed to a local sports court to pick up trash, clear overgrown grass (perhaps with the help of a few machetes!), and prepare the area for a fresh coat of paint. Pastor Rigo has begun a sports camp there as a way to provide young people with a positive, safe place to spend their time and to help steer them away from gangs and life on the streets.
Meanwhile, the final group gave the front wall of the school and church a fresh coat of paint. One of the most encouraging moments of the day was seeing our team working side by side with nearly 20 members of the local community. Together, we were able to make the school and church more beautiful while strengthening the spirit of partnership and service that made the day so meaningful.
We are grateful for such a full and rewarding first day and are excited to see all that the rest of the week has in store.
