Day 5
We continued our work on the pilas for our assigned families today. The progress has been steady, and we’re learning a lot about masonry. Our foreman makes the work look effortless—but we’ve learned firsthand that it’s anything but easy! Despite the challenges, each day brings a sense of accomplishment and deeper appreciation for the craft.
The families we’re serving have been incredibly gracious and warm, welcoming us into their homes and lives. We’ve shared simple but meaningful meals together—rice, beans, and tortillas—and rich conversations that transcend language barriers. It’s beautiful to see how multiple generations live close to one another, supporting and caring for each other. Their joy and hospitality have left a deep impression on us.
At Vacation Bible Camp, our lessons have focused on stories from the Old Testament. The children have been so attentive and eager to learn. We’ve averaged around 70 kids each day, and though we end each session exhausted, their enthusiasm fills us with renewed energy. Some even arrive early, peeking through the windows and calling out our names while we set up. Their laughter, hugs, and smiles remind us why we’re here—to share God’s love and be present in these moments.
Back at the hotel, we ended the day with a team dinner alongside our interpreters. They’ve been an incredible part of our group—bridging communication, offering encouragement, and becoming true friends along the way. We’re so grateful for their partnership and the memories we’re creating
