Day 6 – Final Day

Today was our final day working on the pilas for our families. Over the past several days, we’ve gone from mixing concrete with sand and rocks, to laying bricks to form the basin, to finally adding the washboard structure to complete the project. It has been deeply satisfying to see the progress made at each site.

Even more incredible than the work itself has been experiencing the gratitude each family has shown us during our short time together. We arrived as strangers to their culture but leave as welcomed guests in their homes. Each family is unique in their own way, yet a common thread connects them all—the genuine love and kindness they’ve poured out to every member of our team. We’ve shared their food, their coffee, and brief glimpses into their daily lives. It’s clear how central God is to everything they do. Each of us has been embraced by the families we served, and as we said our goodbyes, we knew we’d be taking a piece of them with us in our hearts. Leaving was hard, because in many ways, they’ve become part of us, or maybe we have become part of them.

Later, we returned to the church for our final time with the children. Their pure joy has been a constant source of inspiration throughout the week. Today’s lesson was on Samson, and the kids were as attentive and enthusiastic as ever. Each day they’ve greeted us with smiles, laughter, and hugs that could brighten anyone’s spirit. These children are truly children of God, and saying goodbye to them was no easier than leaving the families—but we know their love for God will continue to guide them throughout their lives.

Tomorrow we’ll travel back to Tegucigalpa and spend a day as tourists before heading home. As we prepare to leave Honduras, we know that our experiences here will never leave us. The people we’ve met have touched our hearts in ways we never imagined.

For anyone considering joining a future serve trip to Honduras, or any international trip, please know this: you will be changed. The love, faith, and generosity of the people here will impact you in ways that words can’t fully describe. So if the opportunity ever comes your way—say yes.
