Malawi: April 23 - May 5, 2026

Today was one of those days where you feel overwhelmed by the number of health challenges that are here in Africa and across the world.  We feel we are making a difference until you realize how big Africa is and how small of a region we are working in.
We all say you have to start somewhere and Resurrection and it’s partner Opulence have made dramatic changes to this region of Malawi.  We saw just over 300 patients today and if we would have had time, we could have seen 80 more.  We just ran out of daylight and here in Africa when it gets dark, it is really dark.  There are no street lights, house lights or portable lights.  It is just plain dark so we have to quit when we run out of sunlight.
The team, made up of Doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists, saw a variety of very serious illnesses today.  Four of our patients had to be physically carried to the clinic.  We met two men yesterday that said they walked 12 miles to see the doctor and had to walk twelve miles back home after their visit with the doctor.
We ended to day again with a discussion about what went well and what areas we need to improve our processes in.  It makes me smile to watch 12 professionals stretch themselves so that the level of service they provide to their patients is as good as they possibly can.
They all pray on the bus every morning that the Lord will use them and that their service will be pleasing to him.  We plan to do better tomorrow.
