Malawi Blog 6

Malawi: April 23 - May 5, 2026

I love serving in Malawi!!  I love the work we do – today we treated over 300 women, men and children.  I love learning about the culture and sharing fellowship (or, if over meals, “swallowship” 🙂)  But what I love the most is the people!!
The team that I am serving with from Resurrection is amazing.   On the team, we have 6 people who have been here before and 6 people who are visiting Malawi for the first time.  We have 3 married couples and a mother \ daughter duo.  Everyone is kind, hard-working and are growing together as friends and family in Christ.  Going to the lake for vacation sounds so mundane after our adventures here.
Then there are the Malawi professionals that we are serving with each day.  WOW – the work that they accomplish!  Our driver Chifundo can navigate any puddle or road condition – I will never complain about the pot holes in KC again!  The Opulance team, especially Hugo and Twambie, have laughed with us and answered all of the 100s of questions we have asked.  The Malawi health care teams are professional and you can tell they love caring for their communities.
And most important, I am inspired by the Malawian people we have served.  When we arrive, there are long lines of people waiting to be seen – one line for the men and one line  for the women.  Like all kids, the children are all over.  Although the wait is long and the process can be lengthy, the villagers of Malawi are so patient and follow the instructions of our Malawian translators.  We treated two village chiefs today and we did let those VIPs get seen first.  We cared for many sick children and you could see the worried looks on their Mom’s faces.  There were elderly people who couldn’t walk and family members carried them.   I love watching the women with the young babies on their back.  One thing that is universal is a smile.  When we look each other in the eyes and smile at each other, I truly feel the love that God has for all people.
