Malawi Blog 8

05/05/25

Malawi: April 24 - May 6, 2025

Today is hard for us to wrap our head around.  We saw so many things that this short blog could never accurately describe. Profound revelations about life in a village for children in Malawi in communities with food and nutrition issues and no services like electricity,  running water, or roads that allowed easy access.
We started out the day working in a medical clinic that we are considering partnering with in the future.   Then we went and toured villages that were adopting a farm and food program that our church supports through Opulence.   We saw villages attempting to plant trees, bushes, fruits and vegetables as well as rice and fish ponds all with the intent to be self sustaining.  They took barren ground with no vegetation and turned their villages into a Garden of Eden with fruits and vegetables growing everywhere. They raised animals and processed their waste for fertilizer.
We then went to a village that had a solar installation so that kids could attend classes at night and read using the solar lights.  We toured individual houses that had solar installed and heard what changes three small light bulbs had made in their lives.
We went into a school room that has classes at night using the three small solar lights with 140 students and one teacher.  I can’t tell you how much visiting that classroom and those homes impacted all of us.  The resilience that we saw tonight by those kids and their parents was life changing both for them and for us.
