Poland: August 2-11, 2024

Today was our transition day.

The morning began with a group of us looking for some exercise – there were 3 groups (walkers, speed walkers, and runners).  It’s a beautiful way to see the city – as people are opening their stores, heading to work, the air is cool, as we experience the city waking up – from running through Planty Park to the square through Old Town, up and around the castle. Kudos to the young people willing to get out of bed early!

After a quick breakfast, we packed up and departed Krakow heading to Granice, a rural town west of Warsaw for the retreat.  On the way the different groups worked on their workshops, VBC, and youth time.

The law in Poland requires drivers to take rest stops so once we were loaded in the van, we waited 10 minutes before we departed.  We also stopped at a spot for a 30-minute drive break.  In true 1970’s form,  we all deserved a break today and not only had a bathroom break, but a McDonalds break.  The students were excited and even quite a few adults were as well.  Food, toys, flags, sunglasses, it was a fabulous way to spend a half hour!

Once we arrived and checked into our hotels, we had a late lunch (McDonalds was a pre-lunch for some) and then set up our rooms and helped set up the large room.  The students are AMAZING – there’s been several times when Pastor Adrian needs help, so I throw a group WhatsApp message out there for a request for strong students and they come out of nowhere.

As every night, we ended the evening with a devo & debrief.  Tonight was extra special because we began it with worship and also had one of the polish youth (Sergiusz) join us.  The students have been leading our devotions and doing an excellent job – lots of input from everyone and great conversations!
