“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
Phillipians 4:19
TODAY was the opening of the Nakalama Medical Center. UCSS built and staffed an entire hospital for the people of Nakalama and today was the dedication of this facility. What a privilege to be a part of this! In typical Ugandan fashion, we were greeted by the entire community singing and dancing their praises to God.
This dedication did not include dignitaries, long fundraising speeches, or big pairs of scissors to cut a ribbon. This ceremony was to thank God for all that He is now providing to the people of Nakalama. The medical staff, the counseling staff, and the medical technicians were introduced and prayed for. Treatment for the community began immediately.
The team thought that work yesterday was hard raising a hoe over our heads, swinging with allour force to make a hole. Today involved so much more. Our team was split into teams to assist the medical staff. There were hundreds of people there to receive medical treatment. This community has not had any local medical care, ever. UCSS with the limitless power of God has provided the facility. Mothers now have immediate access to prenatal care, labor and delivery, post-partum care, birth control and general health care. Children can easily be immunized, well-baby checkups, and regular checkups. There is access to basic diagnostic resources and prescriptions for treatment.
Today was overwhelming and heartbreaking on the surface. Seeing sick children; unimmunized children; pregnant women who have not had prenatal care; and sick adults, all of which were hard to witness when compared to what we have. Faith, hope and love prevailed in the end. God has provided these people with a place where their immediate health needs can be met! The smiles and nods of thanks far outweigh what it looks like on the surface.
We have an awesome God. He was not done providing for the team today. The team continued the day by meeting the farmers of James Farm. James Farm is one of 30 farms that UCSS helped propagate. Each farm has at least 15 acres of land to grow on. Now farmers are able to provide food for their families. Each farmer has a source of income to improve their living conditions.
At the end of today, the team is exhausted. But the great news is that God is NOT exhausted! God has promised that He will provide all that we need. Above all else God is providing for the people of Nakalama and giving the team a chance to witness His glory in action.
