Blood Drive

Give the gift of life by giving blood!

This year, 2024, marks our 30th year of hosting Community Blood Center’s Blood Drives.

Community Blood Center, CBC, established over 60 years ago, serves hospitals in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, as well as eastern Kansas & western Missouri. CBC is a Division of New York Blood Center, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation.

Resurrection’s partnership with CBC began in June of 1994, in response to a young member needing blood. That one drive in ’94, where 42 units were collected, has grown to quarterly drives held at four Resurrection campuses. To date over 57,000 units (pints) have been collected. If one pint can save three lives, the positive impact Resurrection has made to the local blood supply is nothing short of a miracle!

Many people don’t realize that you can donate more than once per year, but you can! Whole blood can be donated every 8 weeks, plasma every 4 weeks, and platelets every 7 days. CBC & Resurrection’s scheduling has made it easy to donate quarterly.

Can I Donate? The Community Blood Center has a new donor screening process in accordance with updated FDA recommendations. Now, all donors are asked the same risk-based questions, lifting restrictions that prohibited blood donations from gay and bisexual men. To find out if you are now eligible visit: Individual Donor Assessment (IDA) – Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City (CBC) (savealifenow.org) We encourage you to get the facts: Community Blood Center or call 1-800-688-0900 to determine eligibility.

Become an Organ Donor. One donor can impact up to 85 lives. What’s the breakdown? Eight lives can be saved by organ donation, two people can have vision restored by donated corneas, and 75 people can heal thanks to donated tissue such as skin, bone and heart valves.
