God created us for connection, for community. He craves intimacy, not just with us individually, but with us collectively. Small groups offer a sacred space where we can break down the walls of isolation and step into the vulnerability of genuine connection.

One small group decided to study a series of books chosen by their group. The first was “Right Here, Right Now: The Practice of Christian Mindfulness” by Amy Oden. The author was gracious enough to agree to a Zoom book discussion, sharing some of her ideas and answering the group’s questions which had been sent ahead of time. The small group really appreciated her generosity with her time and sharing of her great ideas. As anticipated, everyone got a lot out of the conversations with her, and it led to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the topic of Christian mindfulness with concrete examples of how to incorporate such a practice. Perspective, shaped by our unique experiences, may challenge others’ preconceived notions. This leads to deeper discussions, broader understandings of faith, and a more inclusive community. All these things are key in continuing to engage, grow and foster others’ growth within a small group community.
