Small Groups

Be Known. Do Good.

What are Small Groups?

You were made for community.

But, finding community in today’s world might be harder than ever before. Small groups invite each person to a journey to know, love, and serve God… together. You don’t have to have it all figured out—you can ask hard questions, embrace doubts, and grow alongside others on the same journey.

The small group is designed to equip you to study scripture, practice the Five Essentials of Christian faith, and change the world through community, connection, and serving others.

I began for health reasons, and meditative prayer has become a daily expression of faith for me. I would love to share this with others who are interested. Besides the health benefits, I hope this group experiences God in a new, glorious way, as I have done. I look forward to this adventure with those who will join me.

I believe connection and community are one of the most important facets of life, and I continue to yearn for both; by leading a group, I can not only increase connection in my life but help create a space for others to do the same. I hope people in my group experience a space of authenticity, curiosity, humility and learning. I hope that – by learning about service and by serving others – we grow not only in our faith but in our relationships with each other and humanity overall.

I started discerning this group after a Resurrection Determined breakout session on Christian masculinity, and it made me realize how much I wanted real Resurrection friendships; guys I could actually talk to and be in community with, not just see on Sundays. I want “young” men (yes, I’m calling 40 and under young) at Resurrection to build real community; friends they can be honest with, hang out with outside of church, and eventually do life alongside as our families and kids grow together.

How Do Small Groups Work?

Small groups at Resurrection are communities of 5-15 people who meet regularly on the journey of becoming deeply committed Christians. Our program is built on an intentional journey, scheduling flexibility, and low-pressure conversations with the potential to become deeper relationships.

  • There is no prep work to attend a session. Simply show up.
  • Childcare and children/student programming is offered at certain times throughout the week.
  • This program is not an every week model. Most groups meet roughly every two of three weeks with built in longer breaks. Groups ultimately decide the flexibility of their schedule.

Host a Group

Interested in hosting a group?

Here’s the truth: you don’t need to have it all figured out to disciple others.
As you grow in your faith, you might feel God calling you to walk alongside others in their journey. Leading a small group is one way to do that. Think of yourself as a facilitator—someone who creates space for honest questions and real relationships. You’re simply saying yes to joining God’s work in your community.

Looking for resources?

You’ve said yes to facilitating a small group—welcome! We’re grateful you’re creating space for honest questions, real relationships, and transformation in your community.
We’ve gathered everything you need to get started with confidence. Explore our host resources to find guides, tips, and support for facilitating meaningful community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions people often ask — and honest answers to help you feel at home.

It’s a group of typically 5-15 people who get together regularly to connect, share life, and grow in their faith together. Many groups use material we provide as the basis for discussion, and others choose their own books — but all of them are primarily about building community.

No! Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be a member or “have it all figured out” to join in.

No sweat. No biblical knowledge required. Groups will talk about the Bible, but there’s no reason to be worried if you’ve never studied the Bible before.

Many groups continue meeting for years after they get to know one another. That is not an expectation, though! We provide structured material for up to two years, but the important part is that you give your group a shot for at least six sessions. If it’s not the right fit, that’s okay. There’s no pressure.

It depends on the group — and every group is a little bit different, and it includes discussion, prayer, laughter, maybe a group activity, and time to catch up on life.

Most groups typically meet for an hour and a half, just enough time to truly connect.

Resurrection has a lot of different groups. There are groups for different ages, stages of life, interests, and schedules. A lot of groups meet at church, some in homes, some at coffee shops, and some online.

Only if you want to! You can ease in and share when you feel ready.

Depending on the day and time of the group, childcare and children’s programming is available.

We start groups during two focused times throughout the year – August and January. If you want to join a group at another time in the year, just let us know and we’ll try to get you plugged in.

That’s okay, come when you can. We know that there are times you won’t be in town or might be sick. When you are available, attending frequently is the best way to form a rewarding connection with your group.

We make no guarantees, but we have put great intentionality into the discussion materials, group formation process, and meeting environment. We think that your experience will likely be a good one if you invest in it.
