A Little Bag of Care: Packing Dental Kits for Our Neighbors

I love good souvenirs. When I travel, I often seek out postcards, espresso cups, and local artwork to take home with me. But one unlikely place that regularly gives out a little bag of goodies is the dentist’s office: a new toothbrush, a container of floss, and a tube of toothpaste.

Not everyone in our community has access to routine oral care, but a little bag of dental supplies can still make its way to them.

Health Partnership Clinic offers a sliding-fee scale so that people can receive quality health care and screenings regardless of their ability to pay. One way the clinic serves neighborhoods throughout our community is by providing dental kits. These kits are distributed through schools and shelters, helping make basic oral care supplies accessible to people who may not otherwise have them.

Recently, Resurrection Overland Park welcomed women for an evening of retreat, renewal, revival, and rejoicing. Along with sharing dinner and enjoying a relaxing yoga session, the women spent time assembling dental kits for Health Partnership Clinic to distribute throughout the community.

By the end of the evening, hundreds of kits had been packed. Volunteers smiled as they placed each new toothbrush, container of floss, and tube of toothpaste into its own little bag. We can only imagine the smiles these simple kits will bring to the people who receive them.

And the work continues. On Wednesday, September 30, Resurrection Overland Park paused our regular small group and class rhythm for a Family Serve Night. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., we gathered to assemble more dental kits. It’s a simple way to put our faith into action and bless our neighbors with something practical.

Sometimes serving our community is as simple as a little bag with a toothbrush, floss, and toothpaste inside. It’s a small act of care that is hugely meaningful.
