In Haiti, some of the most powerful signs of hope are found in things that simply keep going.
A papaya tree still producing fruit.
A community still drawing clean water.
A small loan repaid and loaned again to help another neighbor.
Local leaders continuing to serve their communities, even when circumstances around them are incredibly difficult.
For nearly a decade, Resurrection has walked alongside partners in Haiti, supporting locally led projects designed not simply to meet an immediate need, but to help communities build stronger futures.
And today, that work continues.
From 2016 through 2025, Resurrection partnered with the Fondation Voies des Communautés de Base and L’Étoile Humanitaire to support community development initiatives rooted in dignity, sustainability, and local leadership.
One of those initiatives provided seeds for families to grow crops, including papaya. Years later, community members shared that those original investments are still producing. Trees planted through the project continue to bear fruit, providing both food and opportunity for families.
Another investment helped improve access to water in a community where families previously traveled long distances to meet one of life’s most basic needs. In the video update, one community member describes the water project as an incredible gift—one that continues serving the community long after its initial construction.
Resurrection has also helped support community-based lending programs. Rather than simply giving resources away, these programs allow local residents to borrow money, invest in businesses and other income-generating activities, repay their loans, and make those same resources available to someone else.
The result is generosity that keeps moving.
Perhaps what makes these stories especially meaningful today is the context in which they’re happening.
Haiti continues to face tremendous instability, particularly as gang violence has devastated life in and around Port-au-Prince. Yet in Petit-Goâve, local leaders have continued moving forward. They are planting, lending, building, organizing, and finding ways to strengthen their communities despite the uncertainty around them.
That matters.
Global missions isn’t about arriving with all the answers. At its best, it’s about coming alongside faithful local leaders who know their communities, understand their challenges, and have the vision and determination to create lasting change.
That’s what Resurrection has had the privilege of doing in Haiti.
And years later, we’re seeing the fruit.
Seeds became trees. Investments became businesses. Water became more accessible. And local leaders continue doing the courageous, patient work of strengthening their communities.
