More Than Survival: A New Future Is Taking Shape in Uganda

More Than Survival: A New Future Is Taking Shape in Uganda

When you ask what transformation looks like, the answer isn’t found in one moment.

It’s found in hundreds of small ones.

A young woman opening her own tailoring business.

A brother returning to school because his older sibling can finally pay the fees.

A family harvesting food from their own garden.

A repaired home. A new mattress. A birth certificate. A leader serving their community.

This is the story unfolding through Zoe Empowers in Uganda.

Today, 176 young heads of households are caring for 688 orphaned and vulnerable children as they continue their journey through Zoe’s three-year empowerment program. These are young people who have experienced incredible hardship, yet are now discovering they have the ability to build a different future.

During the past year, participants strengthened businesses through microloans, received vocational training, and launched trades including tailoring, welding, hairdressing, motorcycle mechanics, baking, catering, and phone repair. Others joined together to create income-generating projects like poultry farming, vegetable gardens, passion fruit production, maize farming, and renting tents and chairs for community events.

The impact reaches far beyond income.

With growing businesses comes growing stability.

Families purchased livestock, repaired homes, moved into safer housing, and bought better bedding. Many participants are now paying school fees for younger siblings, giving children the opportunity to continue their education instead of dropping out. Others learned sustainable farming practices, producing harvests that feed their families while generating extra income through surplus crops.

But perhaps most encouraging is that Zoe continues to develop the whole person.

Participants received training on child rights and responsibilities, obtained legal identification documents, served their communities through volunteer projects, and deepened their faith through spiritual gatherings that reminded them they are loved by God and created with purpose.

This is why Resurrection partners with Zoe.

Through faithful Christmas Eve giving, we’re not simply responding to poverty.

We’re investing in young leaders who are discovering their God-given potential, strengthening their families, and bringing hope to their communities.

Transformation isn’t measured only by what someone receives.

It’s measured by who they become.

And in Uganda, because of your generosity, a new generation is becoming exactly that—hope-filled leaders who are building brighter futures for themselves, their families, and those around them.
