At Resurrection, we believe our buildings are more than places where we gather for worship—they are a resource that can be used to bless our community. Earlier this month, we had the privilege of opening our doors at Resurrection Overland Park to host the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment’s Community Baby Shower, welcoming expectant parents, new parents, grandparents, and caregivers from across the area.

The free, family-friendly event connected families with trusted community partners and practical resources to help babies thrive during their first year of life. Participants learned about safe sleep, car seat safety, infant and child CPR, and home safety through hands-on demonstrations and educational workshops. Organizations dedicated to supporting young families provided attendees with safety resources, goody bags, and, for those who completed safe sleep education, Pack ‘n Plays!

One of the greatest gifts the church can offer is a welcoming space where neighbors can gather, learn, and experience care. By partnering with organizations like the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, Resurrection is able to support the health and well-being of families beyond our congregation. Opening our campus for events like this reflects our commitment to loving our neighbors in tangible ways and strengthening our community through collaboration.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible and to the many community partners who shared their expertise and resources. Together, we equipped families with practical tools, meaningful connections, and encouragement as they begin caring for their newest family members. We look forward to future opportunities to partner with organizations like these to serve our community and make a difference every day.

Neil Glaser is a United Methodist pastor serving at Resurrection Overland Park. He enjoys helping people grow from Sunday morning worship to their next step whether into an adult ministry group or volunteering with the community. With his wife, Sierra, they love exploring Kansas City coffee shops, running, and are excited to welcome their first child this fall.
