Church programs for Monday, Jan. 22 will resume their normal schedule at all locations this evening.
Leawood’s Sunday night in-person worship has been moved to 4 pm for Sunday, February 11.
Nearly all of us had schooling growing up. Varying degrees yes, but still opportunity for learning. This just isn’t the case around the world. Imagine if your child or grandchild wasn’t going to school right now because you couldn’t afford it. What kind of hope would you have for their future? It’s very hard to imagine. We have an opportunity to help change that reality for so many children in our global contexts. We serve in many countries, and have an opportunity to support education in Uganda, Malawi, South Africa, and Honduras. Many of you have been to these locations with us on a Serve Trip. For $39 a month you can help support a classroom. And, quite literally, generationally change the trajectory of a child and their future and future family.
Public school conditions in Honduras are often poor. Through the partnership with the Cristo Resucitado Methodist church in Ciudad España, the Juan Wesley school was opened in 2014. The mission of the school is to break the chain of poverty by offering a quality, faith-based education.
For just $39 per month, you can provide private faith-based school education for children in Honduras.
Public school conditions in Honduras are often poor. Low education and lack of jobs often leaves youth with two choices: to join a gang, or to leave the country and their family to look for work. Through the partnership with the Cristo Resucitado Methodist church in Ciudad España, the Juan Wesley school was opened in 2014. The mission of the school is to break the chain of poverty by offering a quality, faith-based education. Resurrection created a sponsorship program to address several barriers to achieving this mission.
Classroom Sponsorships
The unfortunate reality is that the income from paid tuitions does not fully cover the cost of running the Juan Wesley school. To address this need, a classroom sponsorship is available. Class sponsorships help pay for the uncovered costs of the teacher, overhead and support material. Class sponsors receive updates and newsletters containing information about the students and school throughout the year.
The Church of the Resurrection has been in partnership with Ditshego House of Laughter since 2014. The preschool at Ditshego serves young children in the informal settlement at Mooiplaas, near Pretoria, South Africa. Ditshego provides structured instruction for approximately 125 children, 3-6 years old, giving them important early childhood educational skills.
The Ditshego program costs $39 per month helps deliver education to one child.
Help us Close the Opportunity Gap for children in South Africa. The Church of the Resurrection has been in partnership with Ditshego House of Laughter since 2014. About 100 of the families with children in the program have no income. Because of that, and because of the only marginally better circumstances of the other families, the financial basis for the school is unpredictable and unstable. YOU can make a difference in the life of a child by becoming a Sustaining Friend of the Ditshego Preschool.
We ask you to prayerfully and generously contribute on a monthly basis to provide sustaining support for Ditshego Preschool. We aren’t all able to contribute the same amount, but even a monthly gift of $5 (the minimum for this program) can have a big impact. Whether your contribution combines with others to support schooling for a child or you are able to support one or more children on your own, you will be helping “the least of these.” Class sponsors receive updates and newsletters containing information about the students and school throughout the year.
At the Malawi United Methodist Church Preschools they try to serve the most vulnerable families in each of their communities with Early Childhood Education from Monday thru Friday, nutritious porridge, safe care while parents are at work, teaching materials and school supplies. We are currently sponsoring 16 classrooms.
$39 a month ($468 a year) to deliver education to one child.
The people of Malawi are exceptionally joyful and faithful. Sadly, poverty overwhelms small villages and communities in Malawi, particularly affecting children. Trends in under-five mortality rate continue to rise. Malnutrition claims nearly half of all deaths under five.
The children of Malawi need your support, and it is our mission to help alleviate some of the struggles that these children face every day, through the powerful love of God. Through the Preschool Support Program, Church of the Resurrection strives to feed the malnourished, feed teachers with needed supplies and feed young minds through the love of God.

Resurrection began partnering with Uganda Counseling and Support Services (UCSS) in 2022 although United Methodist Women started supporting economic empowerment project several years earlier. This year, UCSS is expanding to the village of Nakalama where hundreds of children have not had access to education. You can help change that but supporting education in this rural village!
For $39 a month, you can change a child’s life by giving them access to a quality Christian education.
Most families live on less than $2 a day in rural Uganda. Many families have 3-6 children which makes sending them to a private school impossible and getting them to a public school miles away just as unattainable (and oftentimes can’t afford public school fees either). Unattainable means there’s little to no opportunity for these children and families. That’s where you come in. Helping close the opportunity gap.
Our partners at UCSS already support two schools and are starting a new school in Nakalama so that more children can go to school. All together there are 8 classes to partner with. Join us in making education a reality for economically poor families in Malawi. Class sponsors receive updates and newsletters containing information about the students and school throughout the year.
