“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give… for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
We’re excited to kick off our Fall Hunger Drive with “Raise the Bar Against Hunger,” running September 28 through October 12, to support our vital Backpacks for Hunger program that feeds kids and families in our 13 partner schools in the KC area. Our ambitious goal is to collect 150,000 kid-friendly protein bars (like Nature Valley, Clif, and Kind bars) to feed children in need throughout Kansas City for the entire year. We know that many kids in our community need nutritious snacks to keep them fueled and ready to learn, and we hope you’ll join us in making a huge difference in the lives of these children and their families. You can pick up a packet of door hangers at any one of our Resurrection locations or download them online to spread awareness in your neighborhood and share your faith—your participation in distributing these door hangers can significantly impact our community outreach by helping us reach our goal and provide essential nutrition to children who might otherwise go without. Serve by using your gifts and talents both inside and outside the walls of the church. Each of us is given spiritual gifts and natural abilities that we can use to serve others and glorify God. The church is the Body of Christ, and each of us is a member of the Body. We are all invited to carry on Christ’s mission in the world, to meet the needs of the people. Whether you are gifted in teaching, helping, encouraging or something else, God is counting on you to touch the lives of others as you serve God.
If I were asked to come up with one word to describe Mission Ministries in 2023, it would have to be growth! Fueled by fantastic January weather, the year began with a record-breaking MLK Serve weekend marked by 2,000 individuals honoring Dr. King’s legacy by participating in community service projects across the metro. In February, you followed that up with a robust response to our 2023 domestic and global serve trips invitation and a Sack Hunger drive that yielded the equivalent of 118,512 pounds of food between monetary and physical donations.
